It rea > can't get much easier or full-featured than Synch now has it. > Hi Frank, Sync is about as easy of a BBS as one could setup, and without the hastle of messing with Fidonet, Dovenet is SO much more simpler and honestly has more conversations then Fidonet currently. I still want Fidonet on my system, but Dovenet seems to be where it's at now. For one Dovenet seems to keep it simple... there's what 20 or so echos while Fidonet has WAY too many. If FIdonet's going to survive it needs to cut back most of the older echos that no one uses. Something kinda neat though, I posted a note on comp.os.linux.misc about my BBS and just asked if there were any oldschool BBSers out there, and within 6 hours I had two folks create new accounts saying they saw my note :) I think even if mainstream Internet users don't ever migrate back to BBSes many Linux or command line folks might. THere's plenty of Linux, Unix, and OSX folks out there who love command line and I think would leap into BBSing ... but alas most either don't know it's here or have no idea where to start. One user who logged in last night from c.o.l.m even said he thought BBSes were dead and didn't even know the Telnet boards were around. If someone didn't go in search for such a thing it's easy to overlook it. SO my suggestion, for BBSes to really thrive again, instead of throwing mindless ad's around start educating folks on what BBSes are, the history of them, and reassure folks that BBSes aren't going anyplace.
