Yea -- it's a real PITA.

Never owned one.  Used them at work, of course.  maybe I'll get one when I 
make my million and retire!  :-)

It might be saveable without too much screwing around.  It works fine for 
a few minutes then fades to black for a few minutes then fades back in for 
a while, then out again...

I'm not too au fait with CRT circuitry, but I'd imagine that isn't too 
difficult a repair.  Trouble is, the usual thing around here is you take 
it in to be repaired and the technician says "I've found the problem, so 
if you can get the parts..."  To which I reply "I didn't hire a soldering 
iron pilot so that *I* could get parts!"
