Thank you! I'm actually a quite charitable person. I'd be happy to give my tax dollars to the sick and needy, but we've diluted that group with the lazy and greedy to the extent that it's impossible to feed them all. Bush might need to be politically correct in his efforts to regain standing in the popularity polls, but I don't. One out of every three people bitching at the Superdome was on government assistance... and I saw a LOT of able-bodied people there! I saw an interview with one guy outside the Astrodome, calling the Red Cross a "scam" and bitching because the debit card he had received earlier in the day ran out after $700, and it was supposed to be $2,000. The Red Cross itself was quoted as being "disgusted" by the number of people who were stealing their offerings in bulk, and in quantities that could never be used for personal consumption. If you want to continue cultivating a sub-class of people in the country, that's fine. I guess it gives you some bleeding-heart cause to drive your mini-van down to Houston and take in a poor family into your guest room. However, I think we'd make better citizens of them by holding them accountable for the choices they make rather than rewarding them with government subsidy. Our goal should be that everyone receives an education and learns a skill that is of value to our society and, then, is held accountable for applying those skills in our competitive marketplace. You'd be surprised how the quality of life improves when you feel like a contributing member of society! --- þ Synchronet þ BBS Doors (www.bbsdoors.com) .
