I'm sure there's great merit in the true "can't take it with you" concept, but there would be obstacles. First, I would agree there should be some minimum threshold (as there is today) to ensure families don't go hungry should a provider die intestate. Next, and even more important, it'd be tough for a government to *plan* around the date for an arbitrary event (like death!) I suppose the country's population could anxiously await the deaths of the Fords, Hughes and Gates types, but getting that tax revenue on a more predictable basis might be necessary to keep running while you wait!
