 Your hearing is actually DAMAGED beyond repair every single time you ride 
without hearing protection.  You can't hear anything this way.  Don't believe
me?  Even without your helmet go and purchase some really good ear protection
and try it out on the highway.  You can hear more without damaging yourself.
