Yes.  I know that is a common solution.  There are several problems with 
that.  Sometimes, I do not wear a helmet.  Other times, I wear my little 
1/2 shell helmet.  You will almost never find me wearing a helmet that 
covers my ears, simply because I don't like having my hearing impaired 
while riding.
