The island is largely limestone which acts as a huge water filter.  We 
pump groundwater into reservoires and from there into homes.  But water is 
a resource that has the authorities worried.  When you use a million cubic 
meters a day on a golf course so Tiger Woods can enjoy his vacation (and 
we seem to be getting more and more golf courses all the time), you have 
to be careful.  There is at least one water desalinization plant on trial, 
and recent legislation requires new buildings to capture certain amounts 
of rainwater (I heard 4 gallons per sq. ft.) for watering gardens, 
flushing toilets, washing cars, and so forth.
