They are the tanks that store the hot water.  The entire process operates 
on thermal convection.  The tanks are all mounted UP-slope to the panels, 
so when the water in the panel heats up, it *rises* into the tank. and the 
colder water from the bottom of the tank *settles* into the panel to be 
re-heated.
