Subj : DVD titles To : All From : Angus Mcleod Date : Thu Jul 07 2005 11:12 pm I have a couple of interesting (to me) DVDs with content strongly connected to aircraft and aeroplanes. I, and other members of the Barbados Scale Model Club who are interestd in aeroplanes and their history like to watch such movies from time to time. I have: Battle of Britain: A portrayal of the defense of Britain by the RAF against the attacks of Goring's Luftwaffe. Good footage of German and British aircraft, including Heinkel HE-111, Bf-109 and JU-87 Stukas, and Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfires, and a guest appearance by an interesting Junkers JU-52 tri-motor. The Blue max: George Peppard in persuit of the Pour Le Merite (Blue max) with plenty of Fokker D-VII's and even a couple of Dr.1's. There are even a few beat up Pfaltz aircraft in there. On the British side a couple of RAF Se5A's and a few good old Tiggies in the background in olive drab. There may be the odd BrisFit in there as well, but I can't remember for sure. 633 Squadron. A rotten movie featuring a short squadron of De Haviland Mossies. The Mosquito was all-plywood, with two Merlins for 'go' and are an interesting aircraft (despite the typical, high-taper De Haviland planform that just screams "tip-stall") but this movie sucketh, and is of interest only because of said Mossies. Those Magnificent men in their Flying Machines: The hilarious tale of a London to Paris air race in 1910, with all sorts of weird and wonderful vintage aircraft, and plenty of jokes. After the movie, an interesting scene in which two 'vics' of English-Electric Lightnings do a fly-past. Memphis Belle: The true story of the 25th bombing mission of a B-17 into Germany during 1944. This was originally made in 1944 as a morale-booster and made use of genuine footage taken on a B-17 station, and gun-camera footage taken over the Ruhr. The film was remade in the '90s (ruined with the addition of sex, and colour film, I'm told). Both are available today, and I've ordered the remake with the intention of ordering the original 1944 B&W morale-booster some time later. Does anyone have any similar movies they can recommend? I'm interested primarily in movies that have a bias towards the aircraft and the flying. We like to see good footage of the aircraft on the ground and in the air, both inside and outside, and are also interested in any depictions of historical events involving aeroplanes. Suggestions please! --- þ Synchronet þ Entertaining discourse from The ANJO BBS .
