I saw a National Geographic articel some time ago that explained in a bit more
detail how it could happen. 

Assuming global warming, the polar ice cap starts to melt. Fresh water from the
melting ice upsets the gulf stream and the heat conveyer stops and the cold
begins to extend it's coverage further south. Across North Europe and middle
America.

Cooupled with medical advances, YOU could be the next generation...

It's not like a bomb going off so many folks don't think it's real. But then
again many folks don't care either way, as long as it doesn't cost them
anything.
