Okay, well Synchronet version 3 doesn't allow dial-in in the traditional way, but it allows connections from the internet. (I assume you are not trying to set up an olv version 2 system.) The first thing you have to do is to get the computer that will run the BBS "on" to the internet. This will be via ADSL, cable, or some sort of dedicated dial-up. Once you can "surf" from the BBS machine, you can then direct your address (from dtdns.com) to "point to" that machine. When that is done, not only will you be able to surf "out" onto the internet, but the internet will be able to surf "in" to you. Lastly, you install and configure the Synchronet software to "welcome" those who surf on to your machine. You could actually do that first, and make sure that it works to your satisfaction *before* making the connection to the internet. Up to you. Take it step-by-step. Lots of people will help. People will direct you to the apropriate documentation if you experience a common problem, or help work through abything quirky with you. Ask questions as you go along, and post all the details you can, such as what type of internet connection you have, what type of modem/router/cable unit, who is your ISP, what your address actually is, what operating system you are running, whether you are using a firewall of some sort, and so on and so forth. BTW, better you "sound dumb" than keep your mouth shut and never learn. --- þ Synchronet þ Adverse comments from The ANJO BBS .
