Subj : Rules of the DOORWARE Echo To : All From : Moderator Date : Thu Feb 01 2001 04:13 pm Rules for FidoNet's DOORWARE Echo * Revised 10-19-96 * The following are the rules for the DOORWARE, FidoNet echo conference. Copies of these RULES can be FREQ'd from 1:2404/201 with the MAGIC NAME OF DOORWARE. SysOps, please post a permanent copy of these echo rules on your bbs or make them available for download for informational purposes. Each SysOp receiving this conference is responsible for any and all traffic into this forum that originates from his/her system. This conference is moderated by Gerry Calhoun at 1:2404/200 and Ruth Argust at 1:2404/201. If you chose to use this echo, then please conduct yourself according to these rules. If these rules do not suit you, then please feel free to take advantage of other echos or nets. Your use of this echo is by implied consent, i.e. you are implying that you consent to obey the rules by your use of this echo. If you use this echo and either violate the echo rules or choose to confront either another user or the moderator, then expect to lose access quickly. Participation in any echo is a priviledge and NOT a right. FidoNet is not a democracy by nature. You do NOT have freedom of speech in this echo. Do NOT ask for same. These rules will be subject to change if a change seems needed. Enforcement of the rules will be handled both in the echo and/or via NETMAIL. Certain violations WILL cause your access to be terminated immediately with no warning. These include asking for registration codes; hacked codes, stolen codes or those not properly paid for are: A. Immoral B. Illegal C. Disrespectful D. Repugnant E. Not TOLERATED! ---> NO HANDLES ALLOWED! Real Names Only! If the BBS Software from which you are posting does not allow you to post your real name in the Header of the message, you must post your real name at the end of the message. ---> NO ANSI OR HIGH ACSII ALLOWED! It garbles some people's messages! Rule #1: Please keep your language suitable to all ages. Remember this message base is open to all age groups and some may take offense to foul language. Substitution of other characters, such as an asterisk, in a guise to hide foul language is NOT allowable either. Quoting back foul language shall be dealt with even more harshly than the original poster. This is a G rated echo. Rule #2: The topic here is DOORWARE for a BBS. This echo is a general door development forum. DOORWARE is for the general discussion of Door Programming. It is geared to the Programmer although SysOp input is welcome; BBS user comments are not on topic unless they pertain to programming a door or how to program. All languages and door program- ming toolkits may be discussed in this forum as well as their interface to all types of BBS software and operating systems. Discussions of of drop files needed to run doors and how to configure and run doors under under any sort of operating system is allowable. There shall be no ongoing threads of discussions which are unproductive. All discussions should be done in a such a manner as to further the knowledge and expertise of all participants and assist the persons asking for advice. There shall be no arguments over which is the best programming language, operating system or the like. Since this echo is geared towards professionals, please act accordingly. Discussions regarding program- ming BBS utilities are allowable. Rule #3: If someone asks for advice on a door set up or is looking for a particular door or programming aid, feel free to offer advice or to mention that you have what they are looking for. But see rule # 4. Rule #4: BBS notices of files available for FREQ are limited to two postings per month. The only exception to this is the announcement of a new release and rule #3 above. If you are giving addresses and phone numbers for FREQ, please be sure they are correct and that any magic names quoted are also working by all systems listed as having the door available. This echo is a FidoNet Echo and any software announcements must include a FidoNet address where the users of this echo may FREQ or download your product. While you may have access to other networks and make your software available through them, many of the users in this echo do not have the same access. Therefore, while it is permissible to post the other network addresses in your announcements, a FidoNet address where the users of this echo may FREQ or download your product must also be included for the message to be ON topic. Rule #5: a.) Keep the message-quoting to a minimum! Most BBS's are run out of the pockets of private sysops, and nobody wants to pay for (or see) a 20-line message quoted in full to have somebody else say "I Agree". ***** DO NOT quote origin lines. ***** b.) DO NOT use all caps. It is considered SHOUTING and is quite annoying. c.) DO NOT repost messages in this base and direct same to another user or participant of this echo. d.) Signature blocks are not allowed. The signature lines should not ever exceed two lines in total unless you are giving more information for interested parties to directly contact you via a voice line, a FAX line or an E-Mail address. e.) Tag lines may NOT be of an offensive nature. Rule #6: PERSONAL attacks are NEVER allowed against either a participant in this echo *or* the Moderator. This *can* constitute grounds for your IMMEDIATE removal from the echo. Religious and/or ethnic derrogatory remarks of any nature are never permitted. Try to keep this a fun place where we can all learn and ask for help when we need it. Rule #7: This echo area is often not understood by BBS users who post here in error. Please do not respond. This only encourages unproductive conversations. Replying to an off topic message is also OFF TOPIC. Rule #8: Any programming discussions are totally allowable and encouraged between authors and aspiring authors, including mutual discussions and help on generating registration keys, preventing piracy of programs, giving general user support, setting up distribution and/or registra- tion sites and the like. Rule #9: Encrypted, encoded or rotated messages including chain messages are forbidden. Rule #10: BBS ads for promotion of a particular BBS *or* Network are expressly prohibited. Rule #11: Discussion of laws pertaining to the operation of a BBS are allowed since enforcement of said law may well envolve doors for which the SysOp may be help liable. Distribution and discussion of this information is important to any SysOp running the doors and also to door authors. This echo can serve as a means to deseminate timely information that may benefit everyone. Morality issues themselves are NOT on topic. Discussion of the impact of the Internet on door development is fully allowable. Rule #12: FidoNet's DOORWARE may not be gated into any other Network without the express, written permission of the Moderator. The DOORWARE echo is the property of Gerry Calhoun and Ruth Argust and is allowed to be distributed by FidoNet via normal FidoNet normal distribution channels. Distribution rights or partial distribution rights are revocable at any time either in entirety or in part. A decision made by either Moderator of this echo is final and may not be appealed to any other person. Rule #13: All rules violations are to be addressed ONLY by the Moderator. If you receive a Moderator warning of some sort, your rebuttal or response to the Moderator may only be made via NETMAIL. No debating or complaining about Moderator rules or rulings is ever allowed in the echo. Violation of same *may* cause your IMMEDIATE removal from this echo with no further warning. If there are any questions or comments about these rules, address them to Gerry Calhoun at 1:2404/200 or Ruth Argust via NETMAIL ONLY at 1:2404/201. Discussion of the echo rules in the echo is off topic. --- * Origin: Reserved for future use. (1:2404/201) .
