To reduce nitrate you can use Nitra-Zorb. I leave a pouch in my filter all the time as it helps to keep nitrates under 10mgl in my case (55g tank heavily planted). It's easily recharged using salt and is good for 20-30 recharges. I recharge it once a week. You can also use a purigen pouch but that product is quite expensive and removes more than just nitrate. It is very good for polishing water but recharging it requires the use of chlorine and most folks are scared of accidentally introducing chlorine into their tank. I've never had a problem with phosphate levels, but I'm sure products are out their to remove it. Graham.
