If you have internet access, do a search for NASM (Netwide Assembler). It's free, and seems to be a decent little package. The syntax is similar to MASM/TASM minus a bunch of the "red tape" directives, which makes for nice clean source code. One really nice thing about it is it supports a wide range of object formats, so you can use it for DOS, Windows, Unix/Linux, etc. It can generate plain binary output too (for example, .COM files) without needing a linker. I'm not sure what the URL is, and I can't check as I don't have internet at the moment. However, if you just plug "NASM" into Dogpile or another search engine, you should get some matches. I'm not sure, but I believe the current version is 0.98. ....
