I could.  I did.  It worked quite well (but of course, you
already knew that!).  This is exactly what I was looking for!

Is it possible that you can suggest a method to replace the
``.*'' using Rolf Jentsch suggestion (or something similar):

 RJ> set dx=[0-9]
 RJ> set ss=.su%dx;.mo%dx;.tu%dx;.we%dx;.th%dx;.fr%dx;.sa%dx

to handle the "valid" file extensions?

I've tried variations of:

    set de=%@substr[.su%dn;.mo%dn;.....

but I keep getting "File not found" error with the contents of
the ss line after the filename.....
