I noticed his habit of using a dot after %temp% too...

I think it's to catch instance when the user puts a trailing slash in
%temp%, like Z:\temp.dir\

the trailing . has no effect in most instance, but it "eats"
the extra backslash if there is one.

in any case havong a trailing backslash in %temp% is an error as
command.com can't use it like that and drops its temp files in the current
directory... so it's probaby pointless checking for it...

4dos isn't bothered by a trailing \ in %temp%
