I started the mess and I think Meirman's right.

consider "10% faster" ... that's arithmetically the same as saying 0.1
times faster so 60MPH becomes 66MPH, faster is usable in this context,
and "100% faster" would be the same as "one time faster" meaning "twice as
fast".

Yeah, I should have used "as fast" instead of "faster" or altered the numbers.
