(Steve) Fabian" When you set a variable from a file, using set/r, you don't need %% - variables are not evaluated. Using 4START.BTM, you can set up a switch btw. primary and seconday SETFILE. Neither needs the %%. The %% is needed only in commands which are executed, e.g. set x=..., or "prompt ...". You can also use the backquotes to postpone string evaluation until the prompt is executed, i.e., used. BTW: you don't need a ";" before the terminating "m" of ANSI controls sequences. I also use long, multicolored prompts; they include the current development environment, %_cmdproc (same prompt in 4DOS and TC16/TC32); in shared environments, the user; in "shelledd out" environment the chain (symbolically). And date/time, shell depth. -- E. S. "Steve" Fabian ESFabian@BellAtlantic.net POB 1540, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034 Telephone: 856-354-1752 EMPIRE Consultants, Inc.
