With the second command I tried, I think I noticed that. I think I went back to windows, and used task manager or in win98 cntl-alt-delete. It was iirc only a list command. Have to use the /I parm for errors caused by directories that have no file that meets the description. OToh, I was able to quickly go through a 1 gig partition checking all the .inf, ..txt, .diz, and .ini files (in three steps). I didn't have to read the file, just verify that it was legible text. The disgusting program AutoSave by V-com had clobbered 210 megs in one 1 gig partition. In another partition, the directory entries and file lengths were still there and looked reasonable, but I kept finding exe files that were corrupt. I think in most of these cases the nearby text files were also garbled, so this helped me look for directories that are screwed up. There are still some I haven't found because I shortened the file names to 8 letters. Does anyone recognize what freeware or shareware these programs might have been if I hadn't contracted their names to 8 letters: corectif.exe or ..zip, hdcachms.exe, viewwini, uninstcl, ttwk160s, taskster, boostme ?? Don't knock yourself out looking for them, some were dl'd because they sounded very valuable and others only because they were on the same page. I don't remember which is which. > -=> Bye <=- > >--- > * Origin: A truly wise man never plays leapfrog with a unicorn.
