Very. Doesn't mean it can't be replaced. Command.com interpreter is an integral part of MSDOS. Just because you can replace it does not mean it isn't. However, once you do replace, it, it is no longer MSDOS, but 4DOS. You have replaced a part of the OS. > O> MSDOS consists of three mandatory files and the standard external > O> DOS commands shipped with each distribution > > O> The three files are io.sys, msdos.sys and command.com. I'm sure one could also hack io.sys and make desired changes, but it won't be MSDOS anymore, will it? Take MSDOS installation disks and install it. Delete command.com and reboot the computer and see what happpens. The computer hangs and reports that a part of DOS is missing. That proves that command.com is an integral part of DOS. Soooo... Just because you can replace part of the OS you think the replaced part is not a part of the OS. This is illogical. Replace command.com with 4DOS and it is no longer MSDOS, but 4DOS. No software producer will support an altered version of thir product. All guarantees, if any, will be null and void. IMO, some 4DOS users have a tendency to be fanatical about 4DOS and have a big problem with non 4DOS users and . I don't think this gives a good impression, especially to potential 4DOS users. I tell you, because of the way I've been treated in this group, I will not even consider using 4DOS. I don't want to wind up with the personality of the typical 4DOS user I have seen!!! Well, some people will say an OS is not an OS, because it requires a BIOS to run. -- MS-DOS 6.22, Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Netscape Communicator 4.08 If someone has to use a pointy-clicky interface with DOS, they probably shouldn't be using DOS at all. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-2 * Origin: Mach2 Systems (1:342/3) .
