Subj : Announce: 4DOS 7.01A available To : All From : Charles Dye Date : Mon Dec 24 2001 10:18 am From: raster@highfiber.com (Charles Dye) 4DOS 7.01A, a minor update to the last major release, is now available for download from http://www.jpsoft.com/download.htm For those not already familiar with 4DOS, it's a shareware replacement for Microsoft's hackneyed DOS command shell COMMAND.COM. It adds many improvements and conveniences, while maintaining a high level of backwards compatibility. Features especially useful at the prompt include command-line editing and recall; filename and variable-name completion; aliases; popup lists of all directories visited, commands issued, and possible file and variable name completions; and one-key access to the detailed hypertext online manual. Batch improvements include speedier compressed and in-memory formats, professional flow-control structures, and literally hundreds of new functions. There are dozens of new commands, and most of the traditional DOS commands have been given new features and improved syntax. Shareware, $70; the trial package is fully functional for 21 days. Updated versions of 4NT (a CMD.EXE replacement, which can run under both the NT-based and the DOS-based lines of Windows) and Take Command (a graphical command shell) are also available.
