That's probably because most of the "trouble" spots are behind us now. >The it looks from here, the area *isn't* still going if you assume that *going > implies that people are posting messages here. I've participated in echos that didn't see traffic for 6 months... But then, most of those are sports echos or somesuch... > I thought it was rather nice that the changeover was made in a relatively > uneventful manner. > I don't really see a basis for flames in Melvin Aching's message. One way of >looking at it, y2k was a big joke. OTOH, a lot of people spent a lot of money > on items they didn't need. The way I look at it, the *reason* the preparations weren't needed was because many thousands and possibly millions of people took on the monumental task of making sure there weren't any problems. Everything you bought *should* have been something you keep on hand anyway. Canned goods, Candles, blankets, etc., are all good for ANY emergency. Since I was somewhat involved in finding Y2K problems, I found his referrence to it as a joke to be somewhat callous. The only reason nothing happened is because millions of people worked on it, millions of dollars were spent to fix it. All that pre-emptive work resulted in what looks like a fizzle, but otherwise would have been a catastophe.
