Subj : Vers. 2.50 To : Jan Andreassen From : Russ Johnson Date : Fri Jun 02 2000 01:53 am >I remember for some years back - before 2.04g was released there appeared a lo > of "hacks" - let's hope this isn't just another hack. Since PKWare announced it (some time ago), it IS authentic. Check their webpage. >> 2.50 supports long file names > For what use? Uh, for Windows. Most of the world now use OSs that support more than 8.3. MANY MANY files arrive at my system (still!) that are unusable, simply because the file passed through a DOS system that doesn't use the latest archiver. The archive is missing files, or they're corrupted. Using 2.5 would resolve this. >> with appropriate switches > If only it could handle multiple volumes - like e.g. ARJ do so splendidly. If you use it for a backup... I prefer tar and/or cpio. Russ --- BBBS/LiI v4.00 MP * Origin: Dimension 7 - Via the Web at http://www.dimstar.net (1:105/8) .
