Subj : 12 Steps On Fidonet To : ... Visitors ! From : Jacques Montagne Date : Fri Mar 02 2001 11:50 pm Dear friends and visitors, I would like to inform all the visitors on this echo, whether they are members of AA or not, or members of any other 12 steps fellowship about the current status of 12 steps echoes on Fidonet and about my activities as a 12 step member on Fidonet. As there are very few writers now on Fidonet, because of the popularity of the Internet, I would like to inform all the readers who visit the 3 echoes I moderate on Fidonet, of the respective goals of all 3 areas. This way, if you feel like writing you might be able to chose the one which is best for you. This message is being posted in the 3 Fidonet areas I moderate and will be posted also in the ECHO_ADS area for all on Fidonet to read. 1- The entry level area for potential alcoholics who would like to recover from alcohol addiction is the SIP_AA echo. But in different BBS, the echo might be called Alcoholism, or AA, or Recovery from Alcohol. 2- For those members from other 12 steps fellowships or for general 12 steps discussion or for discussion of the step of the month according to the calendar month, the 12_STEPS echo would be the best. This has appeared as the most used name in BBS the world over. 3- For members of ACA, or ACOA, or CODA the SIP_ACA echo would be the ideal place to write your sharings. This is where the 2nd and 3rd phase of recovery, the emotional and spiritual recovery beyond 1st phase or physical recovery, or substance sobriety, can be addressed. This echo could also be known as Adult Children Anonymous, etc... This 3rd area is where I write the most, because that's where my recovery is at. But I can very well identify with members of most other 12 steps fellowship. I am quite familiar with ACA, NA, AA, OA, CA, SA, EA and have attended those fellowships as a visitor. With the leaving of many 12 steps members from Fidonet, I have become almost a lone writer on the 3 areas I moderate. It is not that I prevent others from writing; it is only due to few people being present or visitors not daring to express their feelings or thoughts in the public, yet very safe place that are these recovery echoes. Since I am quite familiar with my software for DOS and with Fidonet I have continued to moderate and write on all 3 areas. But most of the messages I post on SIP_ACA and 12_STEPS get re-posted for the benefit of my readers on my ACA Mailing Lists on the Internet. If you prefer the Internet, you can always ask to be placed on my private ACA Mailing List; all you have to do is to leave me a message at any of the following addresses at the end of this message. Since I have had the experience of written sharings, the 12 steps way, I can only encourage all those who would like to use the tool of recovery that written sharing is, on any of the areas I moderate. The recovery I have been experiencing for 7 years by participating in those areas has proved to be incomparable. So feel free to write; everyone is invited and encouraged to open up... It may take you out of your isolation and your emotional miseries. You do not have to be a practicing 12 stepper to start... just trust your intuition... Take good care and I hope to be reading you when you feel at ease to do so, Jacques M. as moderator of SIP_AA, 12_STEPS and SIP_ACA on FIDONET copyright 2001, JM ___--------------------------------------------------------------------- P.S.
