Subj : Welcome To : ... Visitors ! From : Jacques Montagne Date : Wed Nov 08 2000 04:58 am 12_STEP Echo Rules (posted monthly) A. CONTENT GUIDELINES: 1. The 12_STEPS Echo is a conference for the discussion of participants' experience, strength and hope in using the Twelve Steps suggested as a program of recovery in the book, Alcoholics Anonymous, and as adapted for use by many other self-help Anonymous fellowships. 2. 12_STEPS Echo is open to all who wish to share their personal experience in putting the Steps into practice, as a way to enhance their recovery and to help themselves and others who may be seeking to follow the same course of action. 3. This is an open echo. Aliases or handles are permitted and invited, at the discretion of each local sysop. All who participate are asked to respect the anonymity of the other participants. 4. Once a month, the conference moderator will post one of the twelve steps as a general topic for discussion. Discussion of any of the Steps, however, consistent with the first two paragraphs above, or of the Twelve Traditions, is welcome. 5. Ad hominem attacks and recurring general chitchat are not appropriate in 12_STEPS Echo and may be considered excessively annoying. Echo participants should keep in mind that many different Twelve Step fellowships are represented in the echo, and that the exact wording of the steps may differ from fellowship to fellowship, as may the suggested application of those steps. In other words, sharing beyond one's experience is discouraged. B. FIDONET ADMINISTRATION GUIDELINES: 1. This conference may be gated to any other amateur mail networks, provided that: a) We are notified of the name of the network and gating system, b) All messages posted here contain a valid origin line, showing the originating system (and not just the location of the gateway). 2. Messages in this conference must contain a tear and origin line. The tear line may not be longer than 25 characters including the "---" characters, and should include only packer or editor program information. The origin line may not exceed 79 characters including the required ending of a proper network address and the "# Origin: " text. Eight-bit ASCII is not allowed in this conference. All characters in displayed message data (text/header) must be in the range 32 to 126. 3. Please keep the amount of quoted text down to the bare essentials. ABSOLUTELY necessary. (One of the biggest costs with distributed mail conferences is the use and abuse of the quote feature.) 4. The moderators reserve the right to deny specific individuals posting access to this conference if the individual repeatedly ignores requests from the moderator to terminate a message thread or engages in persistent violations of echo rules. 5. The assistant moderator has full authority *and responsibility* to carry out any and all actions that pursuant to FIDO NET formal and informal policies are the responsibility of the moderator. In the absence of the moderator from the echo for two weeks or longer, the assistant moderator will assume the moderator's responsibilities pending his/her return, resignation, or removal from the FIDO NET nodelist. 6. In the event that the current moderator resigns the position, he/she will announce the upcoming resignation in the echo and ask for suggestions on who should be the future moderator from echo participants. The retiring moderator will select the new moderator from among those suggested by participants, announce the identity of the new moderator in the echo, and give the new moderator the Elist Password and any other pertinent information via net mail. C. MISCELLANEOUS: 1. Treat others as you wish to be treated yourself. 2.
