以下為三種版本的官方說法, 請參考.

中華民國民用航空法第二條第一款：
航空器：指飛機、飛艇、氣球及其他任何藉空氣之反作用力，得以飛航於大氣中之器物。

FAR(美國聯邦航空法規) Part 1.1
"Aircraft" means a device that is used or intended to be used for flight in
  the air. 一般譯為"航空器"
"Airplane" means an engine-driven fixed-wing aircraft heavier than air,
  that is supported in flight by the dynamic reaction of the air against its
  wings. 一般譯為"固定翼航空器"或"飛機"
"Rotorcraft" means a heavier-than-air aircraft that depends principally for
  its support in flight on the lift generated by one or more rotors.
  一般譯為"旋翼航空器"或"旋翼機"

JAR(以歐盟國家為主的共同航空法規)
'Aircraft' means a machine that can derive support in the atmosphere from the 
  reactions of the air other than the reactions of the air against the earth's 
  surface. 
'Aeroplane' means an engine-driven fixed-wing aircraft heavier than air, that
  is supported in flight by the dynamic reaction of the air against its wings.

'Rotorcraft' means a heavier-than-air aircraft that depends principally for its
  support in flight on the lift generated by one or more rotors.
