Lockheed SR-71 "Blackbird"
Strategic reconnaisance aircraft, 1961 

Development:
  SR-71 was designed to replace U-2. The first prototype A-11 flew on April 16, 1961. Three of the A-11 prototypes were converted to YF-12A and YF-12C 
experimental fighters which are believed to be an attempt to conceal the actual mission of the SR-71. The first production version flew on December 22, 1964. 
On May 1, 1965, YF-12A piloted by Stephens and Andre set a world speed record on a 25 km circuit at 3331.507 km/h. The same aircraft also set a world 
altitude record of 24462.596 m. SR-71 piloted by Daniel and Cooney set a world speed record on a 1000 km circuit at 2718.006 km/h. 

Modifications: 

SR-71A - the first production version, 31 built 
SR-71B - two-seat trainer, entered service in January 1966, 2 built 
SR-71C - two-seat trainer, 1 built
