Ask Candid Candice a question about Moo Canada:
What is Veronica?
Veronica, an acronym for Very Easy
Rodent-Oriented Net-wide Index to
Computerized Archives, offers a keyword search of most
Gopher Server menu titles in the entire gopher.
The result of a Veronica search is an automatically-generated gopher menu,
customized according to the user's keyword specifications. Note that
Veronica is not a full-text search of data at gopher-server sites, but only a
search of the names of the files at those sites. Veronica indexes the titles on
all levels of the gopher menus, for most gopher sites on the Internet. Since
Veronica is accessed through a gopher client, it is easy to use, and gives
access to all types of data supported by the Gopher protocol.
Yahoo provides a
list of Veronica gateways,
but many of them don't work due to lack of maintenance.
Veronica has been made largely obsolete by the large
Internet search engines which can index the
entire Internet, and not just Gopher sites.
