Fri Feb 6 01:45:07 CST 2004 Wow, its been a long time since I have had time to phlog! It seems I am just now catching up with what I didn't do durrin the holiday! Not much new just a few updates to jughead and a bit of gopher cleanup. I noted that over at simple machines beaker has set up his laserjet III, I just finished my laserjet4, another old machine but man for the price (free) it can sure chug out allot of pages. I believe its around 5000 per toner...not bad, and at around 16 pg/min. I used apsfilter for a canon bjc1000 (cbj70 driver) on lpt0 and the laserjet4 (ljet4 driver) on the lan. It worked great. I am also converting my wife's workstation over to FreeBSD as well, I had never done a real "win user" box before so its a bit slow. I guess I like consol better. KDE is nice but a bit hogish..of course it is full featured. My personal preference if I run X is Blackbox, or twm with a bit of candy. I had the displeasure of getting rid of about 40 machines I didn't have running on the lan here (15 on the lan and 4 spare) so I went from 59 boxes to 19. Such a waste...They were all pentium from one p-60 to many p-166-266. I had been slowly selling them and then tried to give them to some schools even offering to set them up (FreeBSD, Linux, etc) even went so far as to agree to making win boxes out of them and running open office and other open or free software that would allow students without the means to buy a computer to be able to keep pace with those that could. No one wanted them. So I now have a pile of hard drives CD drives floppies and etc, it takes up much less room that way I guess... just seemed like such a waste. Oh well, later! O
