FULL STORY ======================================================================Say hello to the new IKEA Gmpyssling light and sensor It's a simple battery-powered, standalone device The affordable light is available now in European markets Fresh from launching some colorful new speakers and lamps , IKEA has expanded its smart home gadget range even further with the Gmpyssling light and sensor: an LED light that automatically turns on whenever motion is detected. It couldn't get much simpler, and it couldn't be much cheaper either. As per Notebookcheck , you can pick up a two-pack now for 3 in the UK and 4 in various EU countries, including France and Germany. There's no word yet on whether or not these little lights are going to make it to other countries. It offers warm white illumination (2700 Kelvin), is housed in 50% recycled plastic, and has a diameter of 7 cm (2.8 inches) and a depth of 19 mm (0.7 inches). No hubs or apps needed The lights are designed to fit inside cupboards (Image credit: IKEA) The motion-activated light stays on for 10 seconds after the last movement has been detected, and comes with a gel pad for attaching it to surfaces. What it doesn't come with are batteries, which are sold separately just a single AA battery is needed for each light. This is a product clearly designed to sit inside cupboards and cabinets: as explained by IKEA, "the light is directed down at an angle to illuminate the interior of the furniture", so you don't need to be scrambling around in the dark. While it's debatable whether or not the Gmpyssling light and sensor qualifies as a smart home product, because it's so simple, there is a certain appeal to gadgets that don't need to be connected to Wi-Fi or operated through a phone app. IKEA certainly seems to have a renewed interest in gadgets like this. Just before the speakers and lamps we mentioned at the start, the company also launched a bunch of cheap lights and sensors to kit out your living space with.
