RUSSELL-McPHERRON EFFECT TRIGGERS SURPRISE AURORAS: Last night, bright auroras
appeared when Earth's magnetic field linked with the Sun's. There was no solar
storm. Nevertheless, red pillars spread as far south as Illinois in the USA.
