I'm guessing it was a manufacturing issue for that year range that so many discs have gone bad (even more so that WB will replace them if still in print). Disc rot sucks. I've collected for Sega Saturn since the 90s and thankfully only lost one disc in the past few years due to rot (World Series Baseball... thankfully a cheap title).
