Yes I checked a Wikipedia article about the book series and it noted a number of inconsistencies between each story, some related to when the author opted to pen the next installment.

I hope I can get through the third book. I watched a review on YouTube recently and the guy thought book three was better than book two, he rated them book 1, 3 then 2 in terms of his preferences for the first three books.

I did revisit Contact recently and also found the final journey that Jodie Foster took when the capsule drops rather anticlimactic.
