The current solar activity made the aurora borealis visible in areas further south than usual, this includes southern Vancouver Island, BC, Canada.

There were a couple other groups of people in the park where I was observing and photographing the lights.  Around 10:30pm the aurora became so brilliant, there was an audible "WHOA" from the crowd in the park.  A pretty great experience.
