Ooh, you just unlocked another memory for me. I started doing some level editing for Quake / Quake II but found I had no imagination and made rubbish levels. My best friend had the knack for making interesting levels but wasn't (to start with) too hot on the details. I took one of his levels and sorted out some much more interesting lighting, put details in like stone sides with capstones running up stairs, vaulted ceilings, etc. and came up with a real winner. It got onto a couple of game servers and people would sometimes request it instead of the common maps.

Of course, after that he learned all my tricks and could add them himself so my help was no longer needed :(
