You're thinking of NetBSD.  They added support for Russets with the last
major upgrade.

Single-core IBM-branded Thinkpads like the T43 started getting sluggish
with Windows 7 (They came with XP). They ran lubuntu just fine, with
lightweight app choices and LXDE. I think the install only needed 512 mb
or RAM? Mine idled using 192 mb.
