Funny story.  In Canada at one point you could only by liquor and beer of the Government.  Unlike the US where you can by beer at the corner store and Liquor at the Mom and Pop Liquor store.  

Things have changed since that time... BUT, there was a time back in the day that the Liquor store closed at like 6 PM on a Friday...  If you were going to party like it was 1999 you had to make a plan because if you didn't you had to talk to the local Bootlegger.

A Conservative Premier gets voted in and he he shook things up.  He complained about a Liquor store spending $1 Million on renovations... Mike claimed people would buy it off the back of a truck and there was no need to send him a bill for a million on a reno.  He also complained about the hours they were open.  

These hours have been long standing and the way Ontario has done business... Unions and whatnot involved... 

Harris, the Ontario Premier, said he was going to privatize liquor sales... 

And the LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) capitulated and opened up later on weekends and added Sundays as well.

Alberta has been "Privatized" for some time now... Thats a lie... They all have to get their supplies from the Government...  So there are no deals if a store buys 100,000 bottles of XYZ...

The government still has its fingers in the pie... they just don't have to worry about being an employer.
