I was thinking it funny and ironic, that when I lived in SoCal, all of the action was on the repeaters, and at the time some of the 70cm and 220 repeaters had some pretty cool toys. Like HF remote bases, etc. Sadly those went away when the control operators of those remote bases passed away and there was no plan within the repeater group / club to take up the torch to relocate or recreate the systems at their QTH. Except for LA and a few nets, you never heard traffic on simplex. I went 20+ years without ever having a QSO on .520. Since moving to the Florida panhandle, I have had 2 QSOs on .520.
