A Chicago jury made the ruling in the first civil lawsuit against Boeing over the two fatal crashes of 737 MAX 8 aircraft, which claimed a total of 346 lives in 2018 and 2019. In March 2019, the Ethiopian Airlines flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi crashed six minutes after takeoff, killing 157 people from 35 countries. Families of 155 victims sued Boeing between April 2019 and March 2021. At the start of the trial, there were eleven other charges. Three other charges have since been settled out of court.
