I played with a couple of AIs, gave it an in-depth storyline, emotional
backstories and asked them to write a 500 word short story in the theme
of a couple of other works.

The results were good, had some elements I hadn't thought of, but IMO
wouldn't stand alone without some tweaking and human elements. Yet.

Give it 5 years and my AI plumber will be able to write decent prose.
