I'm still 100Mb across the board with one 10Mb segment for some of my older machines. 100Mb is "fine" for me based on what I do around the house, but I wouldn't be surprised, if I really did some digging, if I wasn't even getting that. My cables are so ancient that I wouldn't be surprised if I was having a bunch of dropped packets & overruns Now I think about it, if I tried moving to 1 or 10Gb, I'd end up taking the network down because my underspec'd file server couldn't take the load with spinning rust and ZFS.
