Meh, point #1 when you are working for a wage is never to care about things more than your boss does.

If your boss does not care whether the office is burning or not, you don't fix it. If that means the firm goes down, so be it.

The reason is that when you try to go beyond the call of duty, you get called out for it, and the problem remains unfixed anyway.

If you are the sort of person who actually cares for his professional trajectory you are much better off working for yourself. Really.
