Twitter has a "for.you" feed, which uses the algorithm to (poorly) try to show you what it thinks you are interested in, that is true. But Twitter also has a "latest" feed, which is meant to be only a chronological display of posts from people you follow. But for a long time, if you refreshed the page while viewing the latter, it would silently switch back to the former. On the mobile app it also appends "you may also like" posts to the end of discussion threads. Both designed to show you more monetised posts, even if you are not interested.
