I don't do subscriptions, but I feel the same way using Steam for most of my games. While you're buying the game, you can only actually play it on Steam. If you ever were to decide to leave Steam, there goes all of your games. With that said, I've played The Division 2 on and off for every bit of the 7 years it's been out. Incredible game, probably the best by far IMO, if you like looter/shooters. It's the only game I've always gone back to. I've played COD, Battlefield, etc... and while they have their own place for me, I get tired of them, and always go back to my go-tos. *shrug* Regards, Nick ....
