 I don't think Trump ordered anything.  He appointed the people he knew would do what he wanted without him telling them to do it.

 I have no idea why people got worked up over it, other than they didn't like the narrative he was pushing, and they wanted to squash it. It was tame compared to the stuff that comes out daily from Trump and his administration.  
 That said, he'll be back on the air tonight.  It'll be interesting to see his monologue.  I bet ratings are high compared to what he normally gets.

Much like after they announced The Late Show was being cancelled,  ratings shot way the fuck up in the aftermath.
