While there might be alterior motives in the outcome, Texas was forced to redistrict because the Biden admin originally sued them. Biden's admin lost, but the result was that Texas had to redistrict. So this was coming regardless of what Trump asked them to do. Sounds like it was coming even if Biden, or Harris, were President. Newsome and company are just doing it to spite another state. You don't fix a wrong by doing voluntarily something even more wrong. > Looking at some of the congressional districts, it's obvious both sides have > skewed boundaries for political profit at the expense of their constituents. > It's disingenuous to point fingers at one party and not the other. Correct. In Kentucky, the legislature draws districts. The legislature used to always be Democrat controlled and they, too, loved their gerrymanders. I think the last time I was aware of them doing it, they were forced to because of a census and we were losing a seat. At any rate, they thought they'd get creative & try to get rid of one of our 2 only Republican reps. They screwed up. Kentucky went from having majority Democrat representation in the House to never having more that two Democrats in the House at one time. The moral of the story is, IMHO, draw districts like you are supposed to and don't try to play games with it. > Between campaign election finance reform, removing gerrymandering and term > limits, the people who have the power to make the changes to save the system > are profiting from it. I think the only solution is going to burn it all down, > but unfortunately America's wealth will have been secured offshore by that > point. > It was a good run. They can try to "remove" gerrymandering but it will always exist, in the minds of some people, because there will always be a group that doesn't get what they want. I disagree with burning it all down but something drastic needs doing when it comes to the people who are profiting from it. * SLMR 2.1a * Diagonally parked in a parallel universe. --- þ Synchronet þ CAPCITY2 * capcity2.synchro.net * Telnet/SSH:2022/Rlogin/HTTP .
