Something which is widely discussed, and many Lefties are firmly 
convinced of, but also something that he was never charged with, nor has 
it ever been argued/proven in a court of law.  Everybody's got an 
opinion...

As always, context is important.  He said this while addressing a group 
of potential Christian voters.  He later clarified that he meant that if 
he was elected, he planned to fix the country's problems enough that he 
wouldn't need the Christian (or commonly called the "evangelical" vote) 
for the next election; implying that that group of people would be happy 
enough with what he had accomplished already.
