Subj : BBS Reviews To : MRO From : Umbra Mortis Date : Thu Sep 11 2025 15:56:20 Re: BBS Reviews By: MRO to Umbra Mortis on Wed Sep 10 2025 07:41 pm > > Are there any lists of BBS Reviews? *> why don't you just visit them and see for yourself. Because my mom won't let me. ;-( Serious Answer?? There are more than a thousand BBSs to connect to. So, choosing to connect to any of them, you're primarily going to base that off of one of a handful of ads that you might see, or the Name of the BBS and/or the location of the BBS from the BBS list. Or, word of mouth works great, but if you're new to BBSs there's not a lot of word of mouth to go off of. *In my case, I chose Vertrauen because I'm intrested in Synchronet and it's just up the road in Temecula. Also, with no central or federated authentication system for BBSs to use, that's a thousand different user registration and verification experiences to run though. No bueno. The TXT file of the BBS list does include a description for about a quarter of the BBSs on the list, but that's 750+ with basically just the name to go off of, and that BBS list is > 16,000 lines long. The BBS ads are helpful in that someone is investing their time to promote their board and bring people to it. They're written / created by the owner / operator though, so you are primarily getting their own perspective; as opposed to a visitor/users perspective. Having said all of that, ads can catch your attention, and you can connect and see what you think of the board and it's users once you're there. I believe that endorsements from a neutral 3rd party can speak volumes about the experience that they had as a user/visitor/member. Other people may relate with those shared experiences and choose to check out that board; or defer that board to checkout later. At least, that's my thinking. What's yours? Or, at least, can you share the top 3 boards that you enjoy visiting each month? <-- Hunt --- þ Synchronet þ Vertrauen þ Home of Synchronet þ [vert/cvs/bbs].synchro.net .
