I think you lived much more in the moment then, and enjoyed your time spend on the Amniga, and backups didn't come to mind (so much). Also computers didn't take up such a big part of daily live. LCD screens didn't even exist, and digital photo camera's neither, or were way to expensive. So there was much less data, and HD space was much more expensive and less available...
