All PCI devices, including the built-in AMD SCSI will share IRQ 11. The interrupt can be changed by PnP OS's like Win95. The interrupts supported for PCI are 11, 10, 9, 5. For PCI cards that require memory, it is mapped into high extended regions of system memory. The exceptions are video cards, and also cards that have BIOS extensions (SCSI and network with remote boot PROMs) that will continue to use upper memory block regions (A000-FFFFh). IO Addresses used by PCI cards are typically in areas above 500h, which is where most IO maps stop. In addition the IO addresses are dynamically assigned to one of many possible values (PnP), so there should never be conflicts between cards. Once again, the exceptions are cards that provide some backwards compatiblity to older adapters, mainly (S)VGA cards. For the reasons mentioned above, it is difficult to designate specific values for memory, & IO addresses. To get some idea about the number of setup choices with a PCI Card, run Win95 and go into Control Panel/System/System Properties/Device Manager and select the PCI card. Select the Resources tab, uncheck the 'use Automatic settings' box, and double click the I/O Range. At this point you can change the resources for the card. You might be very surpised with the number of different options. Memory Map 0000-9FFFh Convention memory A000-BFFFh SVGA memory C000-EFFFh UMB space + System VGA BIOS F000-FFFFh System BIOS SMM (System Management Memory) memory is mapped into the A000-AFFFh range when in SMM mode. Possible system VGA BIOS areas are 1) E000-EFFFh / 64k / Default setting (last 16k, EC00-EFFFh can be reclaimed using an include parameter for EMM386 'I=EC00-EFFFh' 2) E400-EFFFh / 48k 3) C000-CBFFh / 48k There are no functional differences known between the different settings.
